Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hanford CA 217 AM PDT Sat Jul 13 2019 .SYNOPSIS...Today will be a few degrees hotter with widespread triple digit heat across the San Joaquin Valley, lower foothills, and Kern County Desert. A cooling trend will begin Sunday and temperatures by Tuesday will be back down to near normal levels for mid July. Dry weather will continue with mostly clear skies. && .DISCUSSION...Satellite imagery shows clear skies across the central California interior this morning as high pressure over the Four Corners region remains in control. Temperatures are running about the same as this time last night. Winds are light across most of the district though some breezy conditions are occurring through the Kern County Mountain passes. The Four Corners High will bring further synoptic warming today with widespread triple digit heat across the San Joaquin Valley, the lower foothills, and the Kern County Desert. Maximum temps today will be around 5-10 degrees above climatological normals. Much of the SJV is forecast to top out around 105 degrees this afternoon. This will bring an enhanced heat risk today. Those who are sensitive to heat or new to the area should take extra precautions to stay cool and hydrated. Also, area rivers might seem very inviting to cool off this weekend; but they are very dangerous as the water is cold and swift. An upper trough off the Pacific Northwest coast will begin to nudge inland on Sunday. This will start to loosen the grip of the Four Corners High and commence a cooling trend. Temperatures will nudge down a couple degrees on Sunday, meaning triple digits will still be prevalent across the lower elevations. The trough pushes inland on Monday with a few more degrees of cooling & near normal temperatures. A bit more cooling on Tuesday will drop temps to slightly below normal. Models keep the trough over the region through next week with minor fluctuations in temperatures. Winds will increase Monday as the trough pushes inland. Windy conditions will develop in the Kern County Mountains, strongest through and just below the passes into the Desert. Dry weather will persist for at least the next 7 days with mostly clear skies prevailing.
