Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hanford CA 312 AM PDT Sat Sep 7 2019 .SYNOPSIS... Dry conditions and a cooling trend are in store during the weekend along with some gusty winds. Temperatures through Thursday will remain below their typical values for the first half of September. Temperatures are then expected to warm up again later next week with dry weather continuing. && .DISCUSSION... High pressure has been displaced from our region as shortwave energy tracks inland across the west coast. The effects of weakening high pressure began Friday with a slight downward trend in temperatures, but still several degrees above climo. Another incoming Pacific trough will bring further cooling to our area today, lowering temperatures several degrees to slightly below normal for the first week of September. This cooldown today will be accompanied by increased gusty winds as the trough pushes through the region. With gusts expected around 35 mph in the San Joaquin Valley and around 45 mph through and below Kern County mountain passes, Wind Advisories are in effect for these areas this afternoon and tonight. Temperatures will continue to lower several degrees in the dry northwesterly flow behind the cold frontal trough, and Sunday highs will top out around 8-12 degrees below normal. Models are similar in maintaining the troughy pattern in place along the west coast as reinforcing shortwave energy tracks through on Tuesday. This pattern will maintain the well below normal temperatures through the middle of next week. By the end of next week, high pressure rebuilding north and westward will bring an upward trend in temperatures, and highs are expected to climb back to near seasonal averages. Dry weather continues throughout the period.Source: NWS
