October 11, 2019- Mariposa - The Incident Management Team (IMT) at the Briceburg Fire hosted a Chilean fire study tour group led by representatives of the U.S. Forest Service Office of International Programs and the U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance.
The Chilean participants represented the Chilean Forestry Corporation (CONAF), the National Office of Emergency in the Ministry of the Interior (ONEMI), the U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and Chilean firefighters.
The purpose of the Chilean fire study tour was to bring this group of fire professionals from Chile to the United States to engage with technical experts on the topics of the implementation of the Incident Command System (ICS), understanding the mix of aerial wildland firefighting, exploring forest fires and the wildland urban interface.
The goal of the activity was to work towards the creation of an aerial operations program in Chile and learn how the United States manages fires and selects the appropriate resources.
