November 19, 2019 - The Madera County Sheriff's Office reports on Friday, November 15, 2019 shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding a residential 
burglary that occurred on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in the 40000 block of S. Big Oak Flat Road in Oakhurst. Deputy Miguel Soto responded to the scene and ultimately determined that two vehicles were also stolen from the residence.
During the course of the investigation, Deputies Charlie Robertson and Ryan Videgain located both stolen vehicles, a 2003 Mercedes and 2016 Jeep, at a residence in the area of Highway 49 and Lauri Lane. When Deputies approached the residence and attempted to contact the occupants of the Jeep, the driver, later identified as Levi Crawford, accelerated the vehicle at a high rate of speed directly towards Deputy Videgain, who was forced to quickly jump back into the patrol car to avoid being struck. The Jeep then swerved around the patrol car, nearly striking the rear of the vehicle, as it exited the driveway onto Hwy. 49. Deputies almost immediately lost sight of the vehicle.
The Madera County Sheriff's Office received a report from CHP that a Jeep matching the description of the stolen vehicle was located in the area of Riverview and Sutton. The Jeep had been in a collision and the driver was not on scene. While conducting a search of the area, Deputy Ryan Vermeulen located two subjects walking in the area of Harmony Lane and Hwy. 49. One of the subjects was positively identified as 19 year old Levi Crawford of Oakhurst, who was detained and taken into custody.
Levi Crawford was transported to a regional hospital for medical clearance, and subsequently booked in at the Madera County Department of Corrections without further incident on a misdemeanor charge of hit and run resulting in property damage, and multiple felony charges including residential burglary, theft and unlawful taking/driving of a vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, and probation violation.
