May 27, 2020 - On Tuesday, Jeff Aranguena, Superintendent, Mariposa County Unified School District provided an update on COVID-19.

May 26th, 2020

Dear Mariposa County School Community,

As we end an extremely challenging school year, I am not alone in saying that everyone recognizes the far-reaching impact our school closure has had on Jeff Aranguena mariposaboth learning and the social emotional needs of our students, staff, and community. We also recognize that the most impacted group of students are Mariposa County’s graduating middle school students and high school seniors.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these students and their families had many traditional moments taken away from them, including having their last few months on campus stripped from them, due to social distancing and campus closures.

At this time, our staff has worked diligently as a team to provide what we consider quality graduation and promotion plans across our district to honor our students. Under these unique social distancing circumstances, we believe we will be able to provide memorable moments, while still complying with state and county health and safety guidelines.

Our Mariposa Health Officer Dr. Eric Sergienko and his team have reviewed and approved specific and unique graduation plans submitted by each school site. Plans approved at this specific time, have been created with Mariposa County’s current “Phase/Stage 2.5” status in mind, which we are currently operating under. Our team is prepared to adjust accordingly, if conditions change or Mariposa County’s “Phase” or “Stage” changes.

In collaboration with school site principals, our team will be providing guidance this week to students and parents that outlines our graduation plans and end-of-year promotion ceremonies for each site.

Mariposa will forever remember the lasting contributions the Class of 2020 brought to our community. We have watched for many years as these students accepted tough challenges, gained confidence, and prepared themselves for the next stage of their lives.

As it now falls to us to ensure that our students' moments are celebrated, although unfortunately in an alternative fashion during these unprecedented times, it is our hope that the Class of 2020 will be able to draw from their numerous experiences during their time here with our Mariposa County family, and we all wish them much success as they take their next steps.

Sincerely,
Jeff Aranguena
Superintendent
Mariposa County Unified School District
