April 9, 2021 - HEMET – The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) apprehended an offender who walked away from Bautista Conservation Camp in Riverside County on March 29, 2021.

Marquiz Dunn, 26, was apprehended without incident at a residence in the city of Escondido on April 7, 2021 at approximately 9:50 p.m. by investigators and special agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety. The Escondido Police Department also CDCR BK9684 Marquiz Dunn 1assisted with the search.

Dunn has been transported to Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego and will no longer be eligible to be housed in a conservation camp. The case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible escape charges.

Dunn was assigned to Bautista Conservation Camp when he was discovered missing on March 29 during an inmate count at 9:50 p.m.

Dunn was received from Riverside County on Dec. 3, 2019, sentenced to five years for second-degree robbery. He was scheduled to be released in August 2021. 

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
