August 24, 2021 - Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported gunshot victim in the 5th street parking area. Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim; a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his lower back. The victim was able to identify the shooting suspect as Kenny Patterson (age 22). Deputies immediately began to render aid to the victim until medical first responders arrived.
Deputies on scene contacted Brock Hieber (age 23), Hieber told Deputies the gun a .22 caliber revolver belonged to him. Hieber spoke with Deputies at length however his statements changed multiple times. Hieber ultimately stated he moved the revolver, emptied the ammunition, placed the revolver inside his vehicle and discarded the ammunition in a nearby grate.
A warrant was issued for Kenneth Patterson. Patterson contacted the Sheriff’s Office and made arrangements to turn himself in late in evening on August 23rd.
Kenneth Patterson was taken into custody, and currently remains in the Mariposa County Adult Detention Facility on the following charges:
PC 245(A)(2) Felony Assault with a deadly weapon- with a firearm
Brock Hieber was booked and released on the following charges:
PC 135 Misdemeanor Destroy or Conceal Evidence
PC 148(A)(1) Misdemeanor Obstruction of Justice
The victim was transported to a valley hospital.
UPDATE 8/24/2021 6:00 A.M. - Patterson has been booked into the Mariposa County Adult Detention Facility. Additional details will be released today regarding yesterday’s event.
