August 30, 2021 - Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a 17-year-old boy. He has been booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, illegal possession of a firearm and child endangerment. (His photo and name are not available for release)

Around 6:30 P.M. Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls of shots fired at Millerton State Park. An argument had taken place between two gang members at the Crows Nest Boat Ramp. One of them, a 17-year-old boy, pulled out a gun and fired it at the 31-year-old man. A 16-year-old girl, who is a possible friend of the shooting suspect, tried to intervene and was also shot by the 17-year-old. The shooter then ran from the ramp up to the nearby Crows Nest Boat Launch parking lot. State Park rangers and the sheriff’s EAGLE One helicopter responded to the scene. Rangers located and detained the 17-year-old in the Crows Nest parking lot. Deputies, Rangers, park lifeguards and Cal Fire firefighters tended to the man and teenage girl who suffered gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital with what where later determined to be non-life-threatening injuries. The man remains hospitalized and is listed in fair condition. The girl has been released from the hospital.

Fresno County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene to interview dozens of witnesses, which was helpful in providing context to the disturbance. The Crime Scene Unit and homicide detectives arrived to process a large area for evidence. Detectives determined this to be an isolated incident. No other park guests suffered injuries.

If you have additional information to help this investigation or if you captured photos or videos during the shooting, please contact Detective Richard Antunez at (559) 600-8221 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867, www.valleycrimestoppers.org You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
