Outlook
Planned Actions |
Utilize indirect tactics including both hand crews and dozers to continue line construction along CalFire protection areas and outside the western park boundary to provide for structure protection and minimize impacts to values at risk in Three Rivers, Silver City, Hartland and surrounding communities. Structure protection and mitigation efforts for National Park infrastructure. Continue to monitor high-value infrastructure within the National Park to include the Park Headquarters, Museum, and employee housing. Continued protection and mitigation measures for all sequoia groves within the fire area, including the Giant Forest Sequoia Grove. When attributes of fire behavior are favorable to the landscape, allow fire spread to aid in fuels reduction in and adjacent to the groves. Continue strategic firing as fire approaches primary lines with Fire Use modules, hand crews, and UAS. Utilize strategic firing when needed to help meet the objectives identified for this fire. |
Projected Incident Activity |
12 hours: Even with a slight increase in humidity, fire continues to spread through the night with backing, flanking and short uphill runs. 24 hours: Clearing skies and less smoke in the afternoon will lead to active to extreme fire behavior with uphill runs, short crown runs, and spotting. 48 hours: The fire area clears again leading to active and extreme fire behavior with uphill runs, crown fires and long range spotting. 72 hours: Smoke begins to return creating more moderate to active fire behavior with backing, flanking and uphill runs. Anticipated after 72 hours: Smoke filled the fire area again today resulting in backing, flanking and uphill runs. |
Current Weather
Weather Concerns |
Dense smoke continued to cover the fire through the day, as transport winds remained light. Local winds remained light and terrain-driven. Humidity recovery overnight was slightly improved, which led to slight improvements in daytime minimum RH. West winds on Monday will bring slightly better smoke ventilation through the afternoon. |
