October 5, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the KNP Complex Wildfires in Sequoia National Park for Tuesday.
Special Statement: Smoke infiltration from the Windy and KNP Complex fires has prompted air quality officials in the San Joaquin Valley to issue an Air Quality Alert through Thursday, October 7th.
Fire: The KNP Complex is 79,382 acres and 11% contained. Yesterday, fire behavior increased dramatically in the morning with the sunshine and poor overnight recovery. Extreme fire behavior was observed on the north end of the fire. .
Smoke: Yesterday saw Hazardous to Good air quality in the forecast area. Thick smoke continues this morning with some slight improvement this afternoon as dispersion of smoke is forecasted to improve. Expect Unhealthy air quality in Fresno, Woodlake, Hume and Visalia. Northwards in the foothills of Madeira, Mariposa, and Tuolumne counties may continue to see smoke impacts. Sierra mountain communities nearest the wildfires will continue to reach Very Unhealthy and Hazardous air quality. Smoke impacts will be heavily dependent on fire activity.
