Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Monday, August 8, 2022

August 8, 2022 - Nearly 70 large fires and complexes have burned 1,690,492 acres across the country. Two new large fires were reported in Texas. More than 11,500 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents. Three Type 1 incident management teams (IMTs), nine Type 2 IMTs, and one Complex IMT are assigned to incidents in the California, Northwest, Northern Rockies, Great Basin, Rocky Mountain and Southwest areas.
Scattered dry thunderstorms are forecast for parts of Oregon today. Scattered thunderstorms will move across Oregon and Washington tomorrow, moving westward into Idaho and Montana by Wednesday. The Northwest and Northern Rockies areas will continue to be very hot.
The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. If you live in or near the wildlands, wildfires will probably happen in your area. Make sure you and your neighbors are prepared. Know what the natural fire cycle is in your area. Have and emergency plan in place and arrange for safety of your family and pets. Learn to live compatibly with wildfire and make sure your neighborhood remains a safe one. Ask your local fire managers about the fire history and fire ecology in your area.
Hot temperatures of 90-105oF with low afternoon relative humidity of 7-20% are forecast over much of the Inland Northwest into Idaho and western Montana this afternoon. Isolated to scattered mainly dry thunderstorms will develop across far northeast California into south-central and southeast Oregon. Isolated dry thunderstorms are likely to continue overnight in the Oregon Cascades into the Willamette Valley. South winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph will create areas of elevated fire weather conditions across northwest California as well. Scattered wet monsoonal thunderstorms will develop across the Southwest, southeast California, and western Nevada this afternoon and evening. Hot temperatures in the 90s are forecast for southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic with dry conditions, but winds will be light with relative humidity above 35%. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front from the Texas Panhandle through Oklahoma, the Mid-Mississippi, and Ohio Valleys into the eastern Great Lakes. Scattered wet thunderstorms will develop across the Southeast as well.
