Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Tuesday, August 9, 2022

August 9, 2022 - No new large fires were reported yesterday. Nationally, 66 large fires and complexes have burned 1,694,298 acres in 14 states. More than 12,300 wildland firefighters and firefighters credit nifcsupport personnel are assigned to incidents. Wildland fire managers are prepared for potential thunderstorms across parts of Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Idaho.

To date, 40,584 wildfires have burned 5,864,512 acres in the United States. This continues to be well above the 10-year averages of 35,905 wildfires and 4,046,163 acres burned.

The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. For additional information, visit the Predictive Services fuels and fire danger summaryfire weather and potential briefing, and the seven-day significant fire potential outlook.

In many areas, wildlands have become overgrown and unhealthy. This buildup of vegetation or fuels leads to volatile wildfire conditions. Through fire prevention efforts and fuels reduction treatments, fire managers can prevent loss before the fires start. These efforts are most effective when communities partner with other groups that share a common goal: to live in a healthy, productive environment. Prepare for wildfires by learning how you and your loved ones can steer clear of danger. Check out the Fire Adaptive Communities Learning Network.

Weather

Isolated dry thunderstorms are likely to be ongoing across northwest Oregon and move into western Washington through the morning. Moisture will increase across the Northwest and Idaho, with scattered afternoon thunderstorms expected across much of the Northwest, Nevada, and western Idaho. Thunderstorms will be wet for eastern Oregon into southwest Idaho and Nevada but will be mixed wet and dry for central Oregon and much of Washington. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will continue overnight for much central and eastern Oregon and Washington, with thunderstorms gradually becoming wetter as moisture increases. One more day of very warm to hot temperatures will continue across inland Washington, the Idaho Panhandle, and western Montana, with low afternoon relative humidity of 8-20% but winds will be light away from thunderstorms. Elevated fire weather conditions are likely for portions of southwest Oregon and northern California due to breezy southwest winds and relative humidity as low as 9%. The cold front across the Plains will sink south into Texas, with scattered showers and thunderstorms across northern Texas and Oklahoma stretching through the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys into the Northeast. Scattered thunderstorms will continue across much of the Gulf Coast as well.
