Siskiyou County McKinney Fire Updates for Thursday, August 11, 2022
August 11, 2022 - On August 10, a member of the Craig Interagency Hotshot Crew was fatally injured while assigned to the Big Swamp fire on the Willamette National Forest. The firefighting community extends its condolences to the family and friends of the fallen firefighter.
Nine new large fires were reported yesterday, three in Texas, two in both Idaho and South Dakota, one in Louisiana and one in North Carolina. Nearly 70 large fires and complexes have burned 1,686,308 acres in 15 states.
The Northwest will see scattered thunderstorms today. Idaho and parts of Montana may have thunderstorms tomorrow. Current weather conditions combined with very dry fuels increased the potential for wildfires in northern Idaho, northwest Montana and parts of the Northwest area.
The Predictive Services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the significant wildland fire potential outlook for August, September, October and November. Isolated mostly wet thunderstorms are likely to be ongoing across portions of north-central Washington in the morning. Isolated to scattered mostly wet thunderstorms will develop across northern Washington, much of Idaho, and western Montana in the afternoon, with the driest storms likely from north-central Washington into northwest Montana. Drier air will spread farther east into much of Oregon, southern Washington, and northern California with elevated fire weather conditions across portions of south-central Oregon due to gusty southwest winds amid minimum relative humidity of 6-18%. Dry and breezy conditions are also expected across portions of far eastern Wyoming, western South Dakota, and western Nebraska. Scattered wet monsoonal thunderstorms will continue across the Southwest and Utah, moving into western Wyoming during the afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across much of southern Texas, stretching east along the Gulf Coast then into the Carolinas. Thunderstorms will be more isolated across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Isolated thunderstorms are also likely to develop across portions of the Northeast into the Ohio Valley.
