February 21, 2023 - PG&E is mobilizing personnel ahead of a significant cold and windy winter storm that will arrive in our service area by early Tuesday afternoon.

PG&E’s meteorologists are closely tracking the incoming storm and PG&E will ensure added resources are available if needed in areas where strong winds are expected to cause the most severe impacts.

The stronger push of moisture with this storm complex rotates through our service area Thursday into Friday, focused most heavily on the southern portion of our territory.

Snow has the best chance of accumulating in “unusual” locations Wednesday night into Thursday, including elevated Bay Area terrain, the Santa Cruz mountains and the elevated terrain of the Central Coast.

The incoming adverse weather could result in trees, limbs and other debris falling into powerlines, damaging equipment, and interrupting electric service.

PG&E has been preparing for this storm. PG&E has a plan, and we will execute that plan. This includes the use of storm outage prediction models that help us determine the potential timing, location and number of power outages.

PG&E has emergency crews across the Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) service area ready to safely and quickly respond to potential power outages.

PG&E is utilizing the latest technology to help us restore power more quickly and efficiently after a storm. This includes the installation of automated equipment that “self-heals” the grid as well as timely and accurate outage data from our SmartMeter network.

Ahead of storms, PG&E stages power poles, powerlines, transformers and other electric equipment at yards throughout our service territory in preparation to restore power to affected areas safely and as quickly as possible.

In addition, local PG&E operations emergency centers have activated in impacted regions to more efficiently allocate crews, materials and other resources to restoration efforts.  Our central Emergency Operations Center also opened today in advance of the storm.
