March 3, 2023 - Madera County Sheriff's Office officials reported that on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received information that approximately 30 people were snowed in at the Calvin Crest Camp in Oakhurst.
Deputies learned that 3 adults, one elderly female, and a one-month-old infant were among those stranded, and needed to be evacuated. The remaining parties had adequate supplies and elected to remain on site. Additionally, it was reported the camp required parts to fix their plowing equipment.
We were able to pick up the necessary parts, and OHV Deputies mobilized our Sno-Cat to transport the supplies to Calvin Crest. Deputies then transported the party with the infant back down into Oakhurst.
Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue states, “In the midst of this unprecedented storm, our deputies and volunteers have shown their commitment and dedication to serving our community members. We are grateful for the positive outcome of this mission and thank our allied partners for their efforts and collaboration.”
