June 23, 2023 - Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, a homeowner called sheriff's dispatchers to report a strange man walking through her backyard.  As deputies responded to the area of Dudley and Valentine in Fresno, they received updates that the man had run away.  He was hopping fences and entering other homeowners' yards.  Around 10:30 a.m., the man jumped into a canal filled with water and began to float downstream.  The crew aboard our EAGLE One helicopter directed the ground crews to his location.

Firefighters with the North Central Fire Protection District and medics with American Ambulance teamed up with deputies to try and rescue the man from the water, but he refused.  They tossed a bag attached to a rope for him to grab onto, but he continued to resist.  Once he got closer to the shore near Chateau Fresno and Belmont Ave., first responders pulled him out of the water and placed him under arrest.  He was not injured.

41-year-old Shawn Foster is being booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of probation violation, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
