Gang Member Arrested with Firearm and Fentanyl
June 24, 2023 - Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on June 23, 2023, at approximately 2:37 P.M., the Merced Police Departments Gang Violence Suppression Unit arrested a known gang member on juvenile probation for possession of a firearm and for possession of narcotic sales.
On June 23, 2023, Merced PD Gang Officers Rocha and Saldivar attempted to stop Ivan Gonzalez (18), a known gang member on juvenile probation near 2nd Street and R Street. Gonzalez fled from officers on foot, and he began jumping fences.
As officers searched the area, they located Gonzales hiding in a shed of a residence in the 200 block of R Street. Officers located the backpack he had on which contained 134 Fentanyl pills, packaging material, a scale and ammunition. A search of the area also revealed a loaded 40 caliber handgun with a 30-round magazine and a fully automatic Glock switch.
Gonzalez was booked into Merced County Jail for firearms related charges as well as possession of narcotics for sale.
