June 29, 2023 – Mono County officials report that last week, the State Water Resources Control Board and Mono County urged Mono County logofisherman and recreational users to exercise caution when recreating at Crowley Lake following visual signs of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs).  The “Caution” advisory was recommended based on visual indicators of an HAB, and toxin testing was initiated to determine the threat to public health.

Those test results have been received, and the “Caution” advisory remains in place.  Crowley Lake remains in a recreational advisory of “CAUTION” to alert lake users of the elevated risk.  Recreators are encouraged to follow the below guidance until further notice.

CAUTION

Stay away from algae and scum in the water.

Do not let pets and other animals go into or drink the water or eat scum on the shore.

Keep children away from algae in the water and on the shore.

Do not drink the water or use it for cooking.

For fish caught here, throw away guts and clean fillets with tap water or bottled water before cooking.

Do not eat shellfish from this water.

It is also always recommended that the public practice healthy water habits when recreating in a waterbody with a suspected bloom.
