July 7, 2023 - U.S. Forest Service reports the Whiskey Fire burning in the North Fork area of Eastern Madera County is now at 83 acres with 85% containment as of Friday afternoon.
The Whiskey Fire on the Sierra National Forest, is under full command of the U.S. Forest Service.
Please note there are no evacuations for the fire area.
As of July 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., the Whiskey Fire is currently 83 acres and 85% contained. There are approximately 96 personnel assigned and working hard to fully contain the fire. While staffing the fire 24 hours a day, crews and aircraft will continue to locate any heat remaining near the perimeter until full containment is achieved.

Incident Commander |
Andrew Sharpe Sierra National Forest, is the Incident Commander of the Whiskey Fire. The fire is in command of the Sierra National Forest. Essentially this means no other agency is in command with the Forest and full suppression efforts are being utilized. We thank all the partnering agencies that assisted the Sierra National Forest on initial attack including CALFIRE MMU, Madera County Sheriff, CHP Fresno, and PG&E. |

***Update – Friday July 7, 2023, 1:00pm – The Whiskey Fire remains at 83 acres and is now 85% contained.*** Firefighters will continue to work on the fire 24 hours a day, actively seeking any heat near containment lines. Personnel will be active on the day shift and night shift, please be mindful of fire equipment in and around the area, entering and exiting roads. The public is not permitted within the fire area for safety reasons. Containment has increased significantly however, it is not complete yet. Additional time and efforts are being made specifically because of the terrain and difficult accessibility on some portions of the fireline. Resources committed to the fire include engines, a helicopter, hotshots, and hand crews as well as a water tenders. Local equipment is available if a new incident arises. |
