July 15, 2023 - Mariposa County Health & Human Services officials report temperatures are expected to rise through the weekend. Everyone can take steps to help beat the heat.

Mariposa County HHS logo 300▪️ When possible, avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

▪️ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.

▪️ Use air conditioning or fans. If you don't have these options, identify places where you can take a break, like the Library.

▪️ Take cool showers or baths.

For those in our community whose work is mostly outdoors, make sure to take extra steps to keep yourself safe! Working outdoors or in non-air-conditioned places can become hazardous when summer temperatures rise in California.

Here are some tips to prevent heat-related illness at work:

▪️ Stay hydrated by frequently drinking cool water before you get thirsty

▪️ Wear a hat outdoors and breathable, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes

▪️ Rest in the shade or a cooler place

▪️ If you feel faint or weak, STOP all activity and get to a cool place

Employers of outdoor workers are required by California law to provide workers water, rest, and shade.
