Homicide Suspect Arrested
August 2, 2023 - Fresno Police Department officials report that on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 7:21 A.M., officers from the Southwest Policing District responded to the intersection of Lorena Avenue and Geneva Avenue for a Shot Spotter activation, indicating twelve rounds had been fired. Officers arrived and found two shooting victims at the scene. One of the victims, 43-year-old Ibrahim Muhammad, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The second victim, a 57-year-old female, was found to have a gunshot wound to her upper body. She survived and continues to recover from her injuries.
Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives identified 27-year-old Malik Nichols as a person responsible for the shooting. Nichols, who is on parole for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and an active gang member, is currently in custody at the Fresno County Jail for an unrelated shooting. On July 31, 2023, Nichols was additionally charged for the shooting death of Muhammad and the shooting of the female victim. Although an arrest has been made, detectives are asking anyone with information to please contact the Fresno Police Department.
