September 9, 2023 - Mariposa County Sheriff's Office reports Mariposa County Sheriff Deputies are currently on scene of a Deputy involved shooting. This incident took place on Lemee Lane near the town area of Mariposa.

An adult male subject is deceased at the scene.

Deputies were initially responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on Terrace View Rd, where a victim had been stabbed in the head with a knife. While on scene with the stabbing victim, Deputies were able to get a description and a possible location of the subject who had fled the area on foot.

A Deputy located a male subject matching the description in the driveway of the Mariposa County Health and Human Services Agency office. Upon contact the subject immediately attempted to attack the Deputy with a knife. At that time at Deputy involved shooting occurred.

Following the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, all deputies involved in the shooting were immediately placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. The Fresno office of the Department of Justice and the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting the crime scene investigation.
