Homicide Suspect Arrested
November 22, 2023 - Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on November 21, 2023, at approximately 5:21 P.M., Darrion 
Wayne Murphy (21) was arrested without incident in the 3800 block of Washington St. in Le Grand. Murphy was wanted for murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery.
On October 27, 2023, at approximately 11:14 P.M., the Merced Police Department received multiple calls about a shooting near Merced Ave. and Shirley St. in Merced. Officers responded to the area and were able to determine the shooting occurred at a Halloween party in the 1600 block of Shirley St. Renzo Arellano (17) was shot numerous times and succumbed to his injuries on scene.
On November 14, 2023, at approximately 3:07 A.M., the Merced Police Department received a call from a man stating he was shot in the chest at the 7-11 located at 2255 E. Gerard Ave. in Merced. Officers quickly responded to the location and met with the victim who was identified as the store clerk. The victim was transported to a regional trauma center, and he survived his injuries.
Detectives identified Darrion Murphy as the suspected shooter in both cases. Officers from the Gang Violence Suppression Unit learned of Murphy’s whereabouts and quickly responded to the area with detectives. Murphy was located and had a firearm in his possession. He was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail for murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and weapons charges.
