Investigators Pursuing Leads in Homicide Probe
Nothing So Far to Indicate Threat to Public Safety

February 16, 2024 - Inyo County Sheriff’s Office officials report that investigators from the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office, Inyo County District Attorney's Office, Inyo County Sheriff Office logoBishop Police Department, Mono County Sheriff's Department, and the California Highway Patrol have been working diligently the past few days following up on substantial leads and information provided by the public in relation to this week's deadly shooting in the Bishop area.

Sheriff's deputies were called to Shephard Lane in Bishop at about 3:09 p.m. Monday, February 12 regarding a report of a man down and bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and was later identified as Bishop resident David Wiliam Miller, 57. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

It is important to note that the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office has not received any information to indicate there is a threat to the public stemming from this incident, however authorities strongly urge residents to continue to be cautious and follow basic safety measures.

The Sheriff’s Office would also like to remind the public that active investigations require discretion and a tight filter on what and how much information is released, and this should not be taken as a sign the investigation is being treated with anything less than the utmost care and professionalism.

"We understand the community's frustration that has been directed toward the Sheriff’s Office as a result of this incident," Sheriff Stephanie Rennie said. "The lack of information available to the public can be disheartening, but due to the sensitive nature of this active investigation, limited information will be provided at this time so as to not compromise the integrity of the case. We appreciate our public's passion and recognize the grief our community is going through."

The Inyo County Sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with any information regarding this incident to contact Investigator Howard at (760) 878-0383, option 4.
