Criminal Transports Drugs, Law Enforcement Supplies ‘Cash’
June 14, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that Narcotics detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 28-year-old David Giglio of Redwood Valley, CA (Mendocino County). Detectives released Giglio with a citation for transporting marijuana for sale.
On Thursday, detectives made a traffic violation stop on an SUV travelling along Interstate 5 in Fresno County. The Sheriff’s K-9 ‘Cash’ picked up a scent of narcotics and alerted detectives. A search of the vehicle revealed 130 lbs. of processed, packaged marijuana. Detectives seized the marijuana for evidence and destruction.
The possession of small amounts of marijuana (1 oz.) is legal for recreational use in California, however, possession of large amounts of marijuana remains illegal. Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO) continue to commercially cultivate illegal marijuana for sale on the black market. These DTOs include Mexican drug cartels, Chinese organized criminal operations, Laotian and Cambodian organized crime groups and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. These groups not only produce and distribute marijuana illegally, but often use their profits from it to fund the production of other substances such as methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl.
