Murder Suspect Arrested
July 6, 2024 - Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024, officers from the Southeast Policing District responded to the 1500 block of North Ninth Street regarding a ShotSpotter activation. When officers arrived, they located a shooting victim, 42-year-old Yong Vang, next to a pickup truck that was parked on the street. Vang was transported to the hospital but died a short time later. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.
Through their investigation, detectives identified 41-year-old Robert Phompong as the suspect. On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Phompong was located and arrested in the 3700 block of East Olive Avenue during the service of a residential search warrant related to a narcotics and illegal gambling investigation. Phompong fled on foot but was quickly apprehended without incident.
Although an arrest has been made, detectives are asking anyone with information to please call the Fresno Police Department.
