Follow-Up Search Over the Weekend Locates Michael Moore
September 3, 2024 – Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office officials report that over the weekend, Tuolumne County Sheriff Search and 
Rescue (SAR), with the assistance of SAR volunteers from California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA), Wilderness Finders Search Dogs Teams (WOOF), Santa Clara County SAR, Bay Area Mountain Rescue (BAMRU), Cal-SAR and Monterey County SAR, conducted a follow-up search for 71-year-old Michael Moore. Follow up efforts focused on re-searching areas near the location Michael’s pack and dog had been found with Human Remains Detection (HRD) dogs and ground searching additional areas outside the previous search area.
Just after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Human Remains Detection (HRD) Dogs located Michael deceased within the search area. Per standard protocol, TCSO Coroners responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. There was nothing found during the investigation that would indicate foul play.
We are grateful to bring closure to this case for all involved, and we are grateful for all the volunteers that responded to assist with the search efforts.
