Tower District Assault Suspect Arrested
September 20, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 2:00 a.m., officers from the Fresno Police Department’s Central Policing District responded to 936 East Olive Avenue regarding a report of an assault. The 9-1-1 caller advised dispatch that an unhoused male who was sleeping in front the business had just been physically assaulted. The 9-1-1 caller also stated that the male suspect was repeatedly kicking the victim him in the head. After the assault, the suspect fled the scene eastbound on Olive Avenue. Officers arrived and found the 47-year-old victim. The victim was conscious but had suffered significant injuries to his head. The victim was transported to CRMC for treatment. The victim could only tell officers and detectives that he was asleep and suddenly awoke after being repeatedly struck on his head.
Detectives from the Street Violence Bureau initiated their investigation. Over the following weeks, detectives diligently worked with businesses and residents attempting to identify the suspect. Ultimately, surveillance video from a businesses captured the assault and assisted in the identification of the suspect. Through their investigation, detectives were able to positively identify Roberto Felipe Olivera (25) as the suspect who attacked the victim.
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, detectives worked with family members and coordinated the surrender of Olivera. Olivera was interviewed by detectives then booked into the Fresno County Jail for the felony assault charge.
