Calaveras Dismantles Large Illegal Marijuana Grow
September 23, 2024 – Copperopolis, CA – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on September 12th, 2024, at about 8:00 a.m., the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, executed a search warrant in the 4000 block of Chuckwagon Road in Copperopolis for an illegal marijuana cultivation operation.
The search warrant, authorized by the Calaveras County Superior Court and led by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET), resulted in the eradication of an illegal marijuana cultivation site involving several large hoop houses, containing 1,044 actively growing marijuana plants. The estimated street value of the eradicated plants ranges from $291,000 to $447,600.
In addition to the illegal marijuana plants, deputies discovered a container of Methamidophos, a banned and highly toxic substance. California Department of Fish & Wildlife biologists were on site to further investigate potential violations and assist with the banned substance. The substance was ultimately removed from the scene and stored safely for proper disposal.
Three individuals identified as Amy Macias, Stephen Macias and Islas Beatriz were arrested and booked into the County Jail on multiple charges associated with the illegal cultivation operation.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office reiterates its commitment to dismantling illegal marijuana operations and addressing related criminal activities.
