September 29, 2024 - SONORA, Calif. -- The Stanislaus and Eldorado National Forest, working with the Upper Mokelumne Watershed Authority, is pleased to announce the publication of the Notice of Intent of the Mokelumne Amador Calaveras Forest Health and Resilience Project (MAC 2). Publication in the Federal Register initiates a 30-day public scoping period.
Federal Register Notification can be viewed at the following link: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-09-26/pdf/2024-22038.pdf
With an eye toward ecosystem health restoration and wildfire and insect resilience, MAC 2 is a move forward in providing our forests the best opportunity to withstand the worst impacts of drought and climate change. Additional actions will reduce hazards across public lands; reduce the spread of non-native species; support local economies, and maintain and improve aspen groves, riparian areas, streams, and meadows.
Proposed actions will include fuel reduction and forest thinning treatments as well as aspen grove, riparian, stream, and meadow improvements and actions to reduce or mitigate the spread of non-native invasive plants. Treatments will be designed to retain Mature and Old Growth features.
MAC 2 is a 246,838-acre planning effort spanning two forests with 120,716 acres managed by the Amador Ranger District of the Eldorado National Forest, and 126,122 acres managed by the Calaveras Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest.
