September 30, 2024 – CAL FIRE officials announce that the first fully modified C-130H is now in service and enhancing firefighting capabilities!
Since going into service on August 26, 2024, Tanker 122, (the first of CAL FIRE's seven C-130 Hercules airtankers) has flown more than 15 fires, dropping over 140,000 gallons of retardant.
With 4,000 gallons of retardant per load and a cruise speed of 330-mph, this aircraft is a powerful addition to our already impressive fleet. The C-130H is another resource helping us achieve our mission of keeping 95% of fires at 10 acres or less.
