November 6, 2024 – The closing ceremony for Mariposa’s 10th Annual Field Of Service- Past & Present will be on Sunday, November 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Mariposa Museum and History Center. More than 300 flags are flown during the week of Veteran’s Day and these flags pay tribute to all Military Men and Women, Emergency First Responders, Firemen, Law enforcement, and Special People in Our Lives.
The closing ceremony speaker this year will be Steven Ward (pictured).
Steven began his career in 1990 as a Mariposa County Volunteer Firefighter out of the Bootjack station. After graduation from Mariposa High School in 1991 he was hired by CALFIRE (then CDF) as a Seasonal Fire Firefighter. He left CAL FIRE for full-time work with private ambulance in 1994. In 1997 he became a Paramedic working in both rural setting (Mariposa County) and urban (City of Modesto/Stanislaus County). In 1998 he was promoted to Paramedic/Supervisor in Mariposa County and in 1999 he returned to CAL FIRE Riverside Unit as a Fire Fighter II/Paramedic. In 2000 he was promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer in Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit, Mariposa Division where he worked through the ranks of Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, to his current assignment of Assistant Chief of Mariposa County Fire and Mariposa Division of CALFIRE. Steven is married 28 years to his high school sweetheart and graduate of Mariposa High. Together they have three children (2 sons and 1 daughter) all graduates of Mariposa High School and are proud Grandparents.
Proceeds from the 10th Annual Field of Service-Past & Present will be donated to the VFW Post 6042, the American Legion Post 567, and the Mariposa Museum and History Center. We hope that you join us in supporting and contributing to this special event.
