November 9, 2024 - SONORA, Calif — Fire restrictions have been lifted across the Stanislaus National Forest as of Nov. 8, 2024. Fire restrictions were originally put into effect in early July under Forest Orders 16-2024-08 and 16-2024-09 to protect natural resources and provide for public safety. This forest order has now been rescinded lifting the fire restrictions as cooler and wetter weather patterns move across the forest.

Campfire Permits are still required. Campfire permits are free and available online at https://readyforwildfire.org/permits/.

The lifting of these fire restrictions only applies to national forest system lands within the Stanislaus National Forest. It does not apply to pile burning on private property. For information on residential burning please visit https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/current-burn-status/.

As these restrictions are lifted, visitors are reminded to remain vigilant when it comes to fire safety and preventing wildfires. Fireworks are never allowed on public lands. Restrictions have also lifted for shooting firearms in these areas as well, but please exercise caution, as recreational shooting has caused fires in the past. Please follow campfire best practices:

  • Clear all flammable material away from the fire at a minimum of five feet in all directions.

  • Make a fire only if you have a shovel and sufficient water to put it out.

  • Never leave your campfire unattended.

  • Never build a campfire on a windy day.

  • Make sure your campfire is completely out. Drown it with water and stir with dirt, making sure all burned materials are extinguished. Feel with your hand to make sure it’s out cold.
