Update on Missing Fisherman Case
January 30, 2025 – Mabie, CA – Plumas County Sheriff’s Office officials issue an update on the missing fisherman case.
We regret to inform you that the search and rescue personnel from Plumas County Search and Rescue recovered the body of 
18-year-old Leonardo Mikelonis of Sparks, NV, on Wednesday. Sheriff Todd Johns and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office offer our sincere condolences to the family during this difficult time.
We understand the community's concern and desire for information; however, we urge the public to allow us ample time to notify families before sharing details online. Premature sharing of information unintentionally causes additional distress to those affected.
Prior to our official release, some members of the public shared information online. While we appreciate the community's concern, it is crucial to understand that such actions unintentionally add to the distress of the victim's family and close friends, who may learn of devastating news in an unfortunate manner. We ask for your patience and assure you that we will provide updates when appropriate.
