March 15, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that southwest officers conducted a traffic stop at Belmont Avenue and Fresno Street for an equipment violation.  The driver stopped the vehicle but drove away as officers stepped out of the vehicle to approach it.  The driver of the vehicle drove away, and officers lost visual of the vehicle in the neighborhood but quickly found it again.  When officers found the vehicle again, the vehicle had crashed into an abandoned building nearby.  

Officers saw a female running away from the collision and then jumping into the canal.  Thankfully the water level in the canal was low and the female was able to bring herself out of the canal and over a nearby fence where she was taken into custody.  

Officers found out the vehicle the female had been driving was stolen and the female also had an active felony warrant for a stolen vehicle violation.  The female was arrested for several charges, including being in possession of a stolen vehicle and for the outstanding stolen vehicle warrant.
