September 9, 2014 - Madera, California – Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz reminds local business to check invoices received in the mail. It has come to our attention that some local business have received false invoices for goods and/or services which were not ordered. The scammers are banking on the belief that the business will not verify the debt and simply pay the bill. Unfortunately, constant vigilance is the only way to be sure this doesn’t happen to you. Verify the authenticity of invoices prior to making payment.
This is a national problem which has been around for quite some years, and now it looks like it has arrived in Madera County.
Should you receive a fraudulent invoice, don’t pay it. But, do notify the law enforcement agency which serves you.
