June 24, 2025 – Turlock Police Department officials issue a safety reminder for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

What do dispatchers, firefighters, and police officers all have in common on the Fourth of July? Non-stop calls, dangerous conditions, and a whole lot of illegal fireworks.

This year, we’re teaming up with the City of Turlock - Fire Department and City of Turlock City Hall to remind everyone what we deal with on and around the Fourth — and how you can help keep it safe.

Police Enforcement:

- If it launches, explodes, or whistles — it’s illegal in Turlock.

- Fines start at $1,000 for the first offense, $1,500 for the second, and $2,000 for each one after that.

PLEASE NOTE: You can be cited even if you’re not the one lighting them. Property owners and party hosts can be held responsible.

Fire Safety:

- We’ve seen fireworks burn down fences, garages, and homes.

- We’ve responded to people who lost fingers, hands, or worse.

- Use only approved Safe and Sane fireworks — and only during legal discharge times.

- Never aim fireworks near homes, dry grass, or rooftops. Keep a hose and bucket nearby just in case.

Dispatch Do’s and Don’ts:

- Only call 911 for emergencies.

- We know you’re hearing fireworks. So are we. Please don’t tie up emergency lines unless someone is injured or property is at risk.

- If you have non-emergency concerns, call (209) 668-1200.

We want everyone to enjoy the holiday — safely, legally, and without a visit from us.
