August 5, 2025 – Merced Police Department officials report that they have recovered the Applegate Zoo sign stolen in February.

We’re proud to share that the Merced Applegate Zoo sign has been recovered and safely returned. Our detectives worked diligently to locate and retrieve this important piece of our community.

We know this sign is more than just a marker. It represents a rescue zoo that provides a safe and caring home for animals who cannot return to the wild.
