August 7, 2025 – Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Monday, August 4, 2025, at approximately 5:32 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Italian Bar Road near Columbia Springs Lane for a reported disturbance. The reporting party advised dispatch her estranged husband, 54-year-old Curtis Ray Hankins Sr., was on the property and attempting to break into the residence.
The reporting party stated Hankins had not lived at the residence for several months and had arrived unannounced in his unmarked law enforcement vehicle and uniform, claiming he intended to move back in due to being unable to afford living expenses related to ongoing civil divorce proceedings.
While deputies were enroute, the reporting party updated dispatch that Hankins had gained entry to the home. Deputies later determined Hankins had gained entry by unlocking the door after reaching through the dog door. After Hankins entered the residence, the victim left to wait at a neighboring property.
Upon arrival, deputies contacted all involved individuals and determined Hankins had unlawfully entered the home. Deputies confirmed the property was jointly owned by both parties and currently involved in civil proceedings regarding ownership and possession.
The victim completed a citizen’s arrest form for the crime of unlawful entry into a dwelling, and requested an Emergency Protective Order, which was granted by a judge.
Deputies accepted the citizen’s arrest and transported Hankins to the Dambacher Detention Center, where he was booked on a violation of Penal Code 602.5(a) – Unauthorized Entry of a Dwelling.
During the booking process, Hankins listed his current employer as the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office. His law enforcement vehicle and service weapon were transferred to his employing agency for safekeeping.
