*** COMMUNITY ALERT ***
August 21, 2025 – Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at approximately 1:46 p.m.,
our Patrol Division responded to the area of Quail Mine Road for a call, which was initially reported as a hit & run, non-injury accident. When deputies arrived, they learned that 49-year-old Amy Dawn Vermillion of Columbia, CA, was armed with a handgun, brandished it, and reportedly fired several shots at her live-in boyfriend. The boyfriend tried to remove the gun from Vermillion’s hand, and during the struggle, she fired the gun, and he was grazed by a round on his left arm.
Vermillion reportedly made threats to shoot and kill him and an adult male friend of his who was visiting the residence. Both men fled from Vermillion, who pursued them into the home and fired more shots. Both men were able to safely get away from Vermillion before she got into her vehicle and began to flee the scene. As she was driving away, the boyfriend’s adult son was arriving at the residence and Vermillion reportedly drove into his vehicle on purpose, then fled the scene.
TCSO Detectives arrived at the scene and took over the investigation, while patrol units and TNT Detectives began searching the area for Vermillion. TNT Detectives later located Vermillion’s vehicle abandoned in the Yankee Hill area of Columbia. Vermillion is still outstanding and is wanted in relation to the following charges: 664/187 PC, 273.5 PC, and 245(A)(2) PC.
***OFFICER SAFETY/ PUBLIC SAFETY***
