December 18, 2023 - Modoc County Sheriff's Office officials report update on recent fire at the Desert Rose Casino in Alturas after one person is in custody! This investigation is still ongoing. The Modoc County Sheriff requests public’s help with any additional information.

On Thursday, December 14, 2023, at approximately 7:55 A.M., fire personnel from county, city, and state agencies were dispatched to a structure fire at the Desert Rose Casino in Alturas. Fire personnel managed to contain the fire to offices on the north side of the building.

Cal Fire Investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. Deputies from the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office are working closely with Cal Fire Investigators to find a motive and to identify a person of interest captured on a surveillance camera at the scene.
