June 11, 2024 - Riverside County Sheriff's Department officials report on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1:10 a.m., a deputy assigned to the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station was in the 1000 block of West 6th Street in Corona when he attempted to contact multiple subjects. The subjects took off running, and the deputy pursued them on foot. When the deputy turned the corner of a building, a male suspect lunged at him, and a fight ensued.
While the deputy was engaged in a struggle with the male suspect, a female began assaulting the deputy, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The female suspect was struck by gunfire. The deputy continued to fight off the male suspect, who was attempting to take his firearm, until good Samaritans arrived and assisted in detaining the male suspect.
The female suspect was rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The deputy was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries, and the male suspect sustained minor injuries.
The involved deputy will be placed on paid administrative leave according to Department policy. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details will be released at this time.
