WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The Labor Commissioner’s Office is committed to collecting owed wages from residential care employers engaged in wage theft. Employees that worked at Edgewood Residential Facility between May 25, 2020 and August 10, 2023, should contact the LCO at 833-LCO-INFO (833-526-4636), as they may be entitled to owed wages and damages under this settlement agreement.
June 13, 2024 - Los Angeles—The Labor Commissioner's Office (LCO) has reached a settlement of $658,948 with a Los Angeles residential care facility to compensate 34 workers who were not paid for all hours worked. The LCO began investigating reports in 2023 that workers at Edgewood Residential Facility were working up to 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, barred from leaving work, not paid for all hours including overtime, forced to work through rest and meal breaks, and were given wage statements without required information such as overtime or late meal periods.
The settlement collects wages and damages with $608,948 of the total payable to the workers for overtime wages, minimum wages, meal period violations, rest period violations, waiting time penalties, liquidated damages, and wage statement violations. The remaining $50,000 is owed in civil penalties payable to the state.
What Labor Commissioner Lilia García-Brower said: “This case shows that my office continues to strongly enforce California’s labor laws and take action to stop wage theft and recover wages for workers.”
