Pastors Corner 200

May 31, 2019 - Perfection seems to be the goal line that nobody seems to cross.  Certainly, we do feel like everything is perfect at times but soon our minds wander and we start to feel something is missing.  Perfection can at times be that carrot on a stick that causes people to do all sorts of things.  Think about beauty, how many have heard horror stories of what people do to their bodies to make it fit their definition of perfect beauty?  There is a whole section of our culture (at least according to the shows on television) dedicated to this very topic.

Elder Wynter SturtevantHuman traditions have different standards on what is beautiful and what is perfection.  The standard that is far more important and is far more superior is the standard that God has made.  The Law condemns us and shows how fallen we are.  It is are a natural reaction to attempt to hold to the law but like our pursuit for perfection, we seem to never find the finish line.  We are not perfect in holding to the Law and in Matthew 5:48 we read, You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”  We are not perfect yet we’re told we must be.  Doesn’t sound like good news does it?  The Gospel message is for we who are imperfect.  We who realize that we cannot perfectly hold to the Law of God and therefore put all of our faith in Jesus Christ.  We imperfect sinners rest on our perfect Lord who through we are deemed righteous.  We are deemed perfect.  Through Christ, we are forgiven.
