July 1, 2019 - After an extensive process led by a group of local experts, Mariposa County has developed a proposed place brand that speaks to the identity of our community. The place brand package includes a flexible and dynamic core logo, logo bugs, a badge and a tagline. The project also included a refresh of the logo that has been used as a county seal since the 1980s.

Place brands are intended to create and reinforce an impression of a community's identity, history, culture and values. They are typically used for marketing purposes including economic development, parks and recreation programs, recruiting employees and so on. Logos and images associated with place brands may also be used to share community pride and allow local governments to show a friendlier side than official seals and formal letterheads allow.

Mariposa County's process for developing the place brand included qualitative and quantitative research, identification of a target market, and understanding word associations people have with Mariposa County before working on a variety of potential designs that were refined into a final proposal. The County engaged thirteen local professionals to steer this process representing local residents and businesses, the Mariposa County Arts Council, Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau, the Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce, John C. Fremont Hospital, and County departments.

In addition to a place brand, County staff took advantage of the collected expertise to create a proposed refresh of the County seal. The presentation to the board introducing the place brand package and refreshed County seal can be accessed here.
