Sunday evening weather update:
Snow fell over much of the fire area beginning before dawn and amounts as of mid afternoon were significant. Accumulations ranged from several inches in Shaver Lake to around a foot at at Huntington Lake. Off and on snow showers even produced “thundersnow” at a few locations. Elevations below 4000 feet experienced a rain and snow mix while the lowest drainages received generous amounts exceeding one inch in certain locations. Bass Lake received 1.06 inches as of 2 pm. Temperatures were much colder over the fire area with Kaiser Ridge at around 8200 feet elevation only reaching 18 degrees for a high while Huntington Lake struggled to reach 21. Mid 20s were prevalent at Shaver Lake and lower elevations temperatures ranged from 35-45 at mid afternoon.Rain and snow showers will end early this evening with clearing skies overnight. Cold air behind the exiting weather system will settle into the fire area and remain through mid week before moderation takes place in the air mass later in the upcoming week. The upcoming week will be dry however by Saturday another chance of rain and higher elevation snow arrives.
