Be Careful Whom You Invite to Your Parties, the Consequences Could be Deadly
June 8, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that summer is a popular time for people to host parties. Whether it’s a celebration for graduation, a birthday or even a good old-fashioned barbeque, you must be careful whom you invite.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public about the potential dangers of advertising events to a wide, unknown audience. Doing so increases the chances of people from rival groups showing up and causing trouble. It can happen any time of year, not just in the summer. Sheriff’s detectives have investigated tragic cases in the past where young, innocent people have lost their lives. In October of 2022 then 19-year-old Angel Zuniga was shot and killed at a Halloween party in east central Fresno. On Friday, June 7, he would be celebrating his 21st birthday.
In January of 2016 then 19-year-old Kayla DeBorde and 17-year-old William Harris died as a result of careless gunfire at a party that grew out of control near Easton. Both instances involved partygoers showing up who should not have been there and violence broke out. We want to make sure no other families ever have to endure such heartache.
It’s important to note that you can be held legally responsible for criminal actions that take place at your property.
A good recommendation is to stick to a guest list and do not allow strangers to randomly show up to your party. Sending out text messages of upcoming or ongoing parties can invite theft and violence into your homes. Remember, your party can still be a blast, without blasting it out.
