June 16, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that Arco, a Belgian Malinois, passed away peacefully earlier this week at home where he was living out his retirement. He was 10 1/2 years old.
Arco was born October 14th, 2013, in the Netherlands. He arrived to the United States at 3 years old and was selected by his handler, Deputy Andrew Bright, to become part of the Fresno Sheriff’s K-9 Unit. Arco worked an assignment in patrol from 2016 - 2022, then retired.
During his time in the unit, Arco attended many school events throughout Fresno County and was loved by all the students and staff that he met. He was a very friendly dog who loved to work and be around his friends. Arco successfully assisted our deputies as well as specialty teams and other agencies. Arco did a phenomenal job at protecting his handler and his law enforcement family for years as he helped to locate many violent criminals, only needing some pets and praise in return. Arco’s favorite place to go at work was Shaver Lake during the winter. He loved the snow, the cold weather always brought out the puppy in him.
When Arco retired, he continued to live at home with his handler and family. Arco missed his job but adjusted to retirement very quickly and loved to play around in the backyard. He was a great dog and a loving protector of his family. Arco will be sorely missed and his handler, Deputy Bright, who will forever be grateful for the amazing time they shared.
Thank you for your service to our community Arco.
