Project Will Repair and Replace Exterior Fencing at Caltrans Merced Maintenance Station
February 2, 2025 – MERCED – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin a maintenance project that will improve the exterior fencing of the Merced Maintenance Station located along Motel Drive and Carol Avenue in the City of Merced.
Work will include the installation of an eight-foot-high new Cochrane Clearvu mesh fence and automated gates around the 2,000 ft. perimeter of the maintenance station.
For the safety of motorists and roadway workers traffic controls will include daytime, alternating lane closures on Motel Drive between Carol Avenue and Merced Avenue, scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Beginning Monday, February 3, 2025, crews will work day shifts, for approximately 60 working days with completion expected in April 2025. Roadside message signs will be placed to alert motorists of scheduled lane closures. Detour signs will also be posted on surface streets.
This $500 thousand project was awarded to Synergy Construction and Development (Bakersfield, CA), who will perform the work required. The project is needed to improve security features at the Caltrans Merced Maintenance Station and reduce future maintenance repair costs.
Caltrans will provide continuous updates on scheduled lane and ramp closures, and any other lane closure details in future traffic advisories and social media posts.
The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
