Notice Regarding Changes to Libby App

February 2, 2025 – Mariposa County Library officials announce that users of the Mariposa County Library’s eBooks app, Libby, Mariposa library logoare going to experience some changes with the app soon. Starting on February 11, OverDrive (the company that owns Libby) is changing some aspects of how the app works. Here is what you need to know.

Expired library cards will now be blocked in the app. Previously, users could continue using Libby even if their library card had expired. Please be sure your card is up to date and your account is active by contacting the library.

Changes are also coming regarding logging in. Users will now log in using their Borrower Number and PIN, instead of their barcode. Please contact your library branch if you don’t know what your PIN number is, or if you need to find out your Borrower Number. (This is different than your library card number).

Finally, the app will no longer be able to ignore fines of more than $5. So, if patrons have unresolved fines over a $5 threshold, that will block them from using the app and they will need to resolve those fines with the library.

As always, we strive to make sure our patrons have a satisfactory experience with the library and its resources. We understand that these changes might cause inconvenience, and we are available to assist you to ensure you can continue using the app.

As a reminder, Libby is free to use for library card holders. In addition to Libby, our library card holders have access to The Palace App, which is our most comprehensive e-book app. It contains our entire Libby collection, as well as our San Joaquin Valley Library System collection, and hundreds of e-titles donated by the State of California. It is also free to use.

For specific issues related to Libby, call the library at 209-966-2140 and ask for County Librarian Matt Johnson. To obtain your Borrower Number or PIN number, please contact a library staff member at your branch.
